Aspen Land Surveyors

When working on a new or existing project that requires a land survey in Aspen and other areas of the Rocky Mountains, it is important to consider a company that has local expertise. We chose to feature the four firms below for their devotion to accurate and timely land surveying in Aspen, but also because each excels in a range of services beyond land surveying. We understand that a dream project might start with a land survey, and choosing a firm that will commit to you from that initial survey all the way to the final checklist enables you to invest in a trusted relationship that builds over time and future projects.

High-Elevation Lifestyle

Whether you need an improvement survey plat or a flood elevation certificate, you will benefit from local companies with land surveying expertise specific to Aspen. The Roaring Fork River Valley is tucked into the Sawatch Range of the Rockies, with elevation that ranges from 5,700 feet by the Colorado River to the 14,000-foot grandeur of Maroon Bells. The area was sculpted by ancient glacial activity, creating the hogback ridges and canyons that form the backbone of our favorite areas for outdoor adventure, like the four (!!!) Aspen ski resorts and the famed collection of backcountry huts operated by the 10th Mountain Division.

Surveying Expertise in Aspen’s Mountain Environment

As fun as these mountains are for playing, any intrepid land surveyor has a challenge in providing accurate information that accounts for both natural and human influences. Aspen land surveyors consider the geological impact of erosion over millennia as well as the drama of the Wild West era that has stretched into modern-day mining claims and high-stakes regulatory decisions about water rights. Beyond professional knowledge of local history, you want to choose a surveyor capable of physically navigating the mountains of Colorado, whether they explore by foot or by drone. Big bonus if your surveying team seems to have fun doing their job!

In this article we will introduce you to:

Roaring Fork Engineering

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention ourselves in the category of full-service firms that provide land surveying services in Aspen, as well as civil and environmental engineering, water resource management, and construction administration. Roaring Fork Engineering works in the entire Roaring Fork Valley, with home offices nestled in Carbondale.

A small but devoted firm, our specialty is working closely with our clients to survey and design for the high-altitude, rugged environment of Western Colorado, including in communities like Telluride, Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, and along the I-70 corridor through Summit County. Because of our close-knit staff, we are able to take a holistic, bespoke approach to our clients’ projects, serving with honesty, integrity, and transparency to accommodate for the unique aspects of living in the mountains—from the infrastructure that supports us to the homes we live in. One of our personal favorite projects was the land surveying and civil design for the affordable housing complex at 802 Main Street in Aspen.

We feel grateful to live in the beautiful environment around Aspen, and we understand that a flourishing community is created and supported by people at all income levels and budgets. Therefore, we were proud to be a part of this essential project, which brought new affordable housing to the Roaring Fork Valley.

We are grateful to be in community with a firm like SGM, with such a strong commitment to present and future achievements in land surveying and civil engineering in Aspen.

Sopris Engineering

Our closest neighbor here in Carbondale, Sopris Engineering is also a value-based firm, with a reputation for being creative, responsive, and reliable on more than 3,000 projects over 25 years. Alongside land surveying, they also provide consulting, civil engineering, and GIS services across the spectrum, from large-scale infrastructure improvements to the installation of handicap ramps to keep our mobility-impaired community members moving with ease.

One of our favorite projects from Sopris Engineering was the Red Mountain Cadastral Survey, which had the team hiking above timberline and investigating centuries-old historic survey data to reset mining claim corners at five abandoned mine sites in the Aspen area. This project was a testament to their high mountain, land surveying skills and their sense of adventure!

Boundaries Unlimited

Boundaries Unlimited is another of our peers in the Aspen area, working hard to provide services in land surveying and development, transportation management, commercial consulting and engineering, and more. They are registered with the American Council of Engineering Companies, and their home office is located in Glenwood Springs, which allows them access to work all across the Western Slope, from Eagle to Glenwood Springs.

We love reading through the testimonials from Boundaries Unlimited clients and celebrating the high standard of quality and workmanship that they help to set and maintain for all of us civil engineers and land surveyors in Aspen, Colorado.
